When I started making work, I was interested in how everyday objects and how language can be translated into personal, individual experiences and how they can be represented in the paradigm of consumer society. While using various interactive installation works, I realized that sharing with others is becoming a necessary element in order to encounter indefinite audiences and myself. Consequently, I started to work in specific places and locations in public spheres. Public spheres are not only anonymous spaces which are very much accessible to individuals, but also as a whole it disguises as the public. There are hidden rules, authorities, intimacy. At this point, I put myself as an intermediary between an individual and a society, an individual and a group in order to generate collective experience among indefinite audiences in the public sphere. The relationship between public spaces, the (exhibition) space, the work of art is significant in order to examine how the work of art function to indefinite audiences in my practice. My work is often text and or sign-based and is situated in public places. It begins when the passer-by registers something different in their environment. My purpose is to create conditions for spontaneous emotional responses and to encourage audiences to experience their own moments rather than doing simply what is expected of them. The work engages the public directly beyond the more limited confines of art institutions. posted on 24th November 2010
